The Sandwich Ministry provides bag lunches to the day laborers in Berkeley and Richmond. The ministry is led by retired Good Shepherd deacon, The Rev. Teddy Knight, and staffed by Good Shepherd parishioners and community volunteers, who make approximately 80 bag lunches per week. The lunch consists of a sandwich, fruit and a snack and the food is provided at low/no-cost from the Alameda County Food Bank, Good Shepherd Organic Garden and Good Shepherd’s pantry.
History: The sandwich ministry began in February of 2011, and was initially funded by donations and money from the church’s discretionary fund. In 2012 alone, over 4,000 bag lunches were assembled and distributed.
Volunteers wishing to help with this ministry may join us at 9:30 am on Mondays in the Parish Hall to make and distribute lunches.
